It is finally summer time once again. When I was younger, the last day of school was the beginning of something magical. The air smelled different. There was electricity in the air from the excitement of starting our summer quests. We would get home, and at least for a little while, that magic remained.
My mom would always have something special for us to eat. Then we would spend the day planning what adventures we would be going on. Yes! We could stay up all night watching falling stars in our blankets on the lawn under the stars. We would go on our adventures to find the missing keys to the antique fire engine down the street. There would be plenty of time to play night games in the dark, before the moms would call for us and we could come home.
Every day we had a different adventure. How many times did we play bike Olympics around the town. Or whose turn was it to ride in the red cart while the others pulled. Who was the one to be put in “jail” in the apple tree or on top of the house across the street?
At what point did the magic stop, and was replaced with, “I’m bored! There’s nothing for me to do!” Or what about “What do I play now?” It makes me wonder what happened to imaginations. Why do you stay inside when there is a bike outside? This dumbfounds me! If I were a kid again, I would love to play in the streets, or on my bike outside.

I knew that I had an imagination at one time. I need to find it.
I am so glad you have good memories of summer. We never had money enuf for great go away vacations, but that didn't seem to matter. Dad always had plenty of work for all of the 6 kids, work hard, play hard. I guess my best memories were of my younger family and all the good times we had, singing as we traveled. Brian always sang those funny songs, you always joined in. Good times!~!
